Our Back Story

Back when OWAL founder Chaim Fried was an executive at Google, he was robbed. Twice.

The feeling of having his personal property breached prompted him to rewire the security system in his own home, which in turn made him realize just how inefficient most security systems really are.

Thus was born OWAL

Security is crucial, yet most video surveillance systems are either Jurassic, or out of a reasonable price range.

A human watching a single video monitor for more than twenty minutes loses 95% of their ability to maintain sufficient attention to discern significant events. Given that many facilities have dozens or even hundreds of cameras, this is clearly beyond human ability. Security cameras generate layer after layer of valuable data that does nothing but calcify and gather dust. The data is generated, but it is not made sense of until it’s far too late.

OWAL is the missing piece required to make sense of the data, in real-time. This way, OWAL detects and prevents—instead of just reacting—to threats. We’ve transformed an inefficient, stagnant system into a flexible, self-improving neural network. With our passion for improving things, the team at OWAL has built self-improving software that greatly improves the value of an asset.

Let us improve yours.

Facial Recognition for Good

At OWAL, we use facial recognition software in healthcare, eldercare, commercial and multi-dwelling properties to keep people safe while respecting individual privacy and dignity. We believe in a system of absolute transparency. Facial recognition technology should only be used when its uses can be fully transparent. At OWAL, we require a firm foundation of absolute transparency in all communications.

Our promise to you.
At OWAL, we don’t focus on surveillance. We focus on enhancing safety and quality of life. All OWAL clients disclose that they are using our facial recognition software. This technology should never be used to exert control. Rather, it should be used to ensure the preservation of valuable assets and even more valuable, human lives.
